Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of generative AI technologies, including how these tools are developed and their potential applications within different levels of social work practice (micro, mezzo, and macro). (45 mins)

  1. Participants will identify and discuss the ethical challenges associated with AI use in social work practice with strategies for navigating these issues responsibly. (30 mins)

  1. Participants will develop practical skills in utilizing generative AI tools through exercises and live demonstrations, empowering participants to apply AI solutions effectively within their specific social work contexts while maintaining a client-centered, ethically responsible approach. (45 mins)

Expected Outcomes for Participants

By the end of this CPD activity, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of generative AI technologies, including how they are developed and how they function.

  • Identify the potential applications of generative AI across micro (individual), mezzo (organizational/community), and macro (policy/systems) levels of social work practice.

  • Critically examine ethical challenges, such as confidentiality, privacy, bias, and equity, and propose strategies to navigate these responsibly in practice.
